Training Your German Shepherd Dog

All About Training Your German Shepherd Dog

N24

German Shepherds are one of my favorite dogs, but they are not for everyone though.

N25

If you want a dog that does not shed much, then you probably do not want to own a German Shepherd.

Of course, you could always brush and groom your German Shepherd to reduce the amount of shedding hair, but that would require a few minutes of work.

It may seem silly to you thinking of brushing your dog as work, but some people who own dogs do not want to do any work.

N22

A lot of German Shepherds like to chase cats.

N26

A lot of people tell me, “Be careful Dave, he is a cat killer,” but actually, most are cat chasers, not cat killers.

Someone forgot to tell my cats that they are supposed to be afraid of dogs and they do not run away, so dogs do not chase them.

You should not allow your dog to fixate and obsess on cats, or other small animals.  Allowing this behavior just makes them crazy and promotes not listening and being crazy.

N9

A lot of people say German Shepherds are the best dogs.

However, the point of this website is ‘you don’t need a German Shepherd.’  I can train other breeds just as well.

For example, a Chihuahua can be trained to be just as fabulously off-leash obedient as any German Shepherd, or just as aggressive.

dogtrainingelkgrove4

Chihuahuas are very protective and can be trained to bite intruders too.  Not that many people are afraid of Chihuahuas though.

N11

Both Pit Bulls and Tibetan Mastiffs like “Belle” and “Mister Puppy,” on the left, can be very protective too, but with a German Shepherd it is easier to go from being aggressive to not aggressive.

For example, a German Shepherd police dog can drag a suspect out of an attic, then an hour later go to an elementary school for a show-and-tell. On the contrary, a Pit Bull once made aggressive generally will be aggressive to most everyone except close family members or friends.

A Tibetan Mastiff owner would not want to take their aggressive dog to an elementary school in a million years.

N15

A lot of people hire me because they wanted a dog that was protective, but they failed to train their dog and instead their dog is aggressive to everyone, including friends, family members and neighbors.

The problem is that most peoples’ friends, family members and neighbors are not the ones robbing their house.  That, and aggressive dogs are not fun to be around.

A lot of my clients friends quit coming over to their houses a long time ago because their dogs make people worry that they are going to get bit.

N16

If you own a German Shepherd, or any dog really, you may want to hire a professional dog behavior expert to teach you how to have a dog that is protective, but can turn the aggressiveness and protectiveness off when around “friends.”

N19

I am a Behavioral trainer and focus on training for temperament and quality-of-interactions.

N13

I can help you to have a dog that is protective, but not a jerk to your friends, family and neighbors.

N14

A lot of dog trainers focus on getting dogs to do commands like “Sit.”

Teaching “Sit” is kind of a waste of time in my opinion if the dog is aggressive because there is not going to be a whole lot of “Sit” when a dog is aggressive because they are so focused on being aggressive.

The distinction here is that there is a difference between a trained dog taught to be aggressive and one taught to stop being aggressive on command. Again, the difference is a trained dogs versus a dog that is crazy and just being protective and/or aggressive solely out of instinct or fear.

With a trained dog you can turn off the aggression like flipping a switch.

N12

99% of the dog training being sold to the public does not work and is a waste of money.

That is why NONE of my competitors has 1000′s of photos and videos of trained dogs to substantiate that their training actually works.

N17

No one would hire a home improvement contractor with no photos of kitchens, bathrooms and roofs.  Everyone has a camera on their cellphone.  There are no excuses  Either a dog trainer can show you 100′s of different dogs they trained or you cannot.  There is no in-between.

References from well-meaning people and friends is not the same thing as showing prospective clients 100′s of dogs they trained.

N1

LOVE, AFFECTION, FRIENDSHIP, RESPECT, TRUST

N2

I like my training because there is a lot of petting, affection, friendship and hanging out together.

N3

Everyone says they can train dogs, but that is not the case or everyone would have photos like I do to prove it and substantiate their claims of efficacy.

N4

Better to hire the best dog trainer the first time and not waste money on something that is not going to work.

A dog trainer’s website is their best foot forward.  What does it say when the website does not show many dogs off-leash trained?  It says someone thinks you are stupid and do not know any better.  They collect your money up-front and then when you complain they say it is your fault or that your dog can’t be trained and should be euthanized.

Again, 99% of dog training is a waste of money and the trainers are basically taking dog owners’ money without delivering much of anything in exchange.

N5

I made this website so prospective clients would not need to believe me or trust me that the training actually works.

The level of obedience you see in my photos and videos are typical results that you can expect if you hire me or one of my trainers.

N6

Good dog training is one of the best investments one can make in their family and home life.

N7

Dogs are much happier trained and so are their owners.

N8

Whether you own a German Shepherd of a scruffy little dog or other breed, training will make you and your dog much happier.

Training German Shepherds – Meet Karl

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING GERMAN SHEPHERDS

Greetings From Roseville, California

Carl20

Purumi, Mister Puppy and Karl enjoy the fabulous weather.

Carl21

Karl the 7-month-old German Shepherd has really “gone from crayons to perfume” the last month and a half.

Carl22

Karl is not so skinny anymore and eats 5 to 8 cups of food everyday plus treats.

Carl14

We love the dogs and there is a lot of petting, affection, hanging out and friendship.

Carl15

The dogs all like each other too and are a well-organized, regimented hunting group.

“Karl” the German Shepherd and “Nera” the Black Labrador are really good and we love them here visiting us.

Carl1

The German Shepherd arrived a week ago and the Lab three weeks ago.

They learned not to jump on people or the sliding glass door, not to be pushy, whiny, controlling, manipulative, annoying, and not to bark, lick, chew, or bumrush people.

Carl2

Now you can pet one dog without the Lab or German Shepherd getting jealous and pushing other dogs away.

carl17

LOVE, AFFECTION, FRIENDSHIP, RESPECT, TRUST

Carl4

The dogs know a few basic commands and do not run away or cause problems for people ever.

Carl5

The goal of the training is to be able to not have to say much of anything or give any commands.

The dogs become intuitive and seem to know what people want and go along with whatever they say.

Carl6

Everyone likes mellow dogs they can hang out with and enjoy.

Carl7

Imagine getting everything you could ever hope for or imagine.

Carl8

If everyone had that, their attitude would improve and they would treat everyone with kindness and respect for sure.

Carl9

If only the dog training secret were everytime you buy a rotisserie chicken you get one for the dogs too.

Carl10

Nera the Lab went home and Zoey found a forever home with the neighbors.

Carl24

Karl the German Shepherd goes home tomorrow and we will surely miss him.

Titan the Rottweiler Mix and Noa the Pit Mix are the ‘New Guys’ now and join the passing parade of pets.

Sometimes you get lucky in life and things turn out better than you ever could have imagined, and ultimately the the price you pay is small compared to the alternatives.

ZEN OF DOG TRAINING

David Baron Dog Trainer imageSometimes there are no words to describe something.

J14

There is no way to explain, define or defend it.

J13You can talk about what you think it is.

J15

But you can never say what it is because no one can.

J4Certain things either happen or they don’t though.

J6

The dogs here at DogAnswers Ranch seem to get it.

J9

Kind thoughts bring about positive outcomes.

J10

An easy yoke and a light burden is the order of the day.

J11

Zia the German Shepherd wishes you were here.

Everyone wishes they were here, but the road is narrow.

Everything in life worth having has a price.

Sometimes you get lucky though and things turn out better than you ever could have imagined, and ultimately the the price you pay is small compared to the alternatives.

Service Dog Training

SERVICE DOG TRAINING

Mena has been in service dog training to be good in public so she will even behave on airplane flights.

Denios Farmers Market image

Denio’s Auction is a famous flea market In Roseville, California.

flea market image

Mena sniffed all the bags for drugs and other contraband.

Mena-4

She found this portrait of Elvis Presley and was fascinated.

Niki Taylor image

The flea market is a very colorful place to train dogs.

Mena-6

Mena picked out this travel bag for Niki.

Mena-7

Mena did perfect with people and was great off-leash.

Mena-8

Everyone enjoyed the doggie clothing store.

Mena-9

This was the most aggressive Chihuahua of them all.

What is different about the Superdog program is clients get the same results from home lessons even with mixed and small breeds, and family pets.

beautiful german shepherd image

Mena looks like the German Shepherd that everyone wishes they had, but Superdog gets the same results with other breeds.

Mena-12

Mena and her friends watch the sunset and migrating birds.

Mena-13

It was a nice fall evening after a pleasant day in the 70′s.

Mena-14

Look at how good the Pit Bull “Rocco” and “Archie” the Border Collie are. They didn’t break “Down-Stay” like the German Shepherd.

Mena-16

You have to admit Mena is a good-looking German Shepherd though.

Mena-17

Mena’s new owners already have a German Sheperd male and are excited to replace the female dog they recently lost.

Mena-18

Mena has a great personality and is very obedient off-leash.

Mena-19

We had a great time delivering Mena to her new home in Colorado after she completed her service dog training with Superdog.

Mena-20

Sometimes things work out better than one could ever imagine.

Mena did stellar in the Sacramento and Denver airports and in the cabin of the airplane. The two dogs got along fabulously and were in no time a bonded pair.

Mena-21

Off-Leash obedience is critical when you live at 11,000 feet.

You can’t have your dogs run after deer, much less predators. A buck like this one could seriously injure or kill a dog.

deer in colorado image

Anyone can train a German Shepherd, but not everyone can get a doe and buck on “Stand-Stay.”

Mena-23

It was hard to give up a dog we spent so long training. Mena’s new mate “Ryny” will look out for her now and continue her training.

Mena-24

Integrity is what goes on when no one is looking.

Mena-25

Doing the right thing is a reward in itself.

Mena-26

Justice is about everyone getting what they deserve.

Mena-27

The best anyone can hope for in this life is an opportunity to love another with all their heart.

Mena found her “Notebook Love” and will live happily ever after as someone’s companion and service dog.

mena-28

The point of this website is that you don’t need a German Shepherd. This website has hundreds of photos of small dogs and other breeds equally as trained.

mena-29

The Superdog program is based on having a relationship with your dog, not on rewards or punishments.

mena-30

It is always good to cover your bases.

mena-31

Amazing behavioral results regardless of size and age. Most any dog can complete Service Dog Training with the right professional.
